Coolie box office collection day 8: Rajinikanth-Lokesh Kanagaraj film dwindles to single digit earnings but far ahead as 2025’s top grosser

It has been one week since Coolie released in theatres. Though the film is still running in theatres, the screens are not as packed as the Rajinikanth action thriller completes one week of release. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie has already begun to see a slump at the box office, with the collections so far in India amounting to Rs 222.6 crore.

Coolie, the Tamil action thriller which released in theatres on August 14, has completed one week of big screen run. The film is written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and had high expectations to be the Tamil cinema’s answer to 1000 crore record. However, upon its release, Coolie did not meet the expectations.

As per Sacnilk report, Coolie box office stands at Rs 222.6 crore. A glance at the daily collections of the film, one will observe that the film had a sharp decline ever since its first Monday (August 18). The Rajinikanth-Lokesh Kanagaraj film had capitalised the long Independence Day weekend, but was unable to keep up with double digit earnings. It is to be noted that Coolie had been certified A at the time of its release. Subsequently, the makers have appealed to the court seeking a U/A certificate for the film, citing that there is much less violence in the film as compared to KGF or Beast which had been given U/A certificate.

Coolie OTT release:

Coolie’s post-theatrical streaming rights have been bagged by Prime Video for a fancy price. The film will stream on the platform sometime in September. Starring Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Aamir Khan, Rachitha Ram, Kanna Ravi, and others, Coolie is a standalone film and not connected to LCU. The film comes at the time when Rajinikanth completes 50 years as an actor.
