Coolie ending explained: How Rajinikanth’s Deva defeats Simon’s crime syndicate in Lokesh Kanagaraj film

Coolie, the most hyped Tamil film of the year, has finally made it to streaming, and is now available on Prime Video in major south languages and subtitles. Ever since the announcement of Rajinikanth’s collaboration with Lokesh Kanagaraj was made, Coolie was shrouded with much-anticipation but unfortunately, it only ended up as a colossal disappointment. With a barrage of stars, and a plot-line riddled with loopholes, the film left audience with more doubts than satisfaction. And for those who are trying to understand the film, here is our attempt to explain how it all ends.

Coolie ending explained:

Coolie is about a man named Deva, who runs a mansion in Chennai and strictly against alcohol. His mansion doubles up as a centre of service for students who come to the city to study. All seems to be going well until he hears of his friend’s Rajasekhar’s death. Upon his visit to the bereaving family, and laying his hands on the real autopsy report, Deva comes to know that Rajasekhar’s death was not natural but a planned murder.

Meanwhile, Rajasekhar, a scientist, had been working for Simon (Nagarjuna) who runs a crime syndicate. Rajasekhar had held at gunpoint to lend his invention, an electric chair that can turn corpses into ashes in seconds and we see Simon using it to dispose off dead bodies. To know more about his friend’s death, Deva and Rajasekhar’s daughter Preethi (Shruti Haasan) under the pretence of helping Simon operate the chair, infiltrate into the group. This is when Simon vaguely recalls remembering Deva but is unable to catch hold of his exact memory. Who was Deva to Simon? Who killed Rajasekhar? And how come Soubin Shahir’s Daya who is one among Simon’s syndicate, becomes an important ploy?

How does Coolie really end?

Towards the end, we come to know that Deva was a union leader and had worked as one of the many coolies under Simon's father Xavier and Kakkar. The coolies were exploited and blamed for the partners' crime, killed brutally and this has led about 19 of coolies to fight and escape. Back to the present, Deva eliminates Simon and kills Daya who had murdered Rajasekhar. We come to know that Daya was a mule sent by the police to expose Simon's gang but had double tracked and wanted to benefit on his own and killed Rajasekhar in return. We also come to know that Preethi is actually Deva's daughter and is not aware about this. Coolie ends with the cameo by Aamir Khan who plays Dahaa, Kakkar's son. When Dahaa recognises Deva for who he is, he offers him to be his right hand. Deva agrees to it, given the coolies are safe.

There are many plot points such as why Rajasekhar was killed by Daya, why Preethi hates Deva, and the backstory between Rajasekhar being a scientist befriending coolie Deva, were left answered which were pointed out by many fans.
