The Coolie countdown has begun and we are just 12 days away from the release. The Rajinikanth-starrer is special for more than one reason. Not only it marks the superstar’s first collaboration with filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj, but also marks 50 years of the actor in the industry. And to make it just even better, Rajinikanth breaks his 36-year-old streak and stars in an A rated film, while it is the first in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s filmography to earn such a rating from CBFC.
Rajinikanth’s films have always known to be family friendly, and something that can be enjoyed as a community viewing. However, his upcoming film Coolie. Is not just going to follow the pattern. Rajinikanth, who is celebrating 50 years in the industry, has broken his 36-year-long streak just to make sure Lokesh Kanagaraj gets his first A-rated film.
Yes, the makers of Coolie have opted for an unexpected decision by censoring the film that will be A rated making it suitable only for adults to watch. It marks the first time in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s career, whose films are popularly known for being high on violence and action.
Reportedly, Rajinikanth's last A rated film was the 1989 action-drama Siva which starred Rajinikanth, Raghuvaran, Sowcar Janaki and Shobana. It was helmed by Ameerjan. Ever since then, Rajinikanth’s films have never been certified A, and had a universal appeal suiting the family audience.
With Coolie makers taking a bold step, it can be only understood that Rajinikanth has bestowed immense trust on Lokesh Kanagaraj with the film. Lokesh, who has self-admitted that he is a fan of action films, have shown it in films like Leo, Vikram and Kaithi. One has to wait and watch what he has done with Coolie.
The trailer of Coolie is all set to be unleashed on Saturday evening with an event to be held in Chennai. Fans are equally excited to hear Rajinikanth’s speech on the stage. Produced by Sun Pictures, and with music by Anirudh Ravichander, Coolie stars Nagarjuna, Upendra, Aamir Khan, Sathyaraj, Soubin Shahir and Shruti Haasan. The film will release on August 14.
