Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Jana Gana Mana has set a unique record for the actor. The Dijo Jose Antony directorial, which was the Malayalam star’s first theatrical release since the pandemic, also marked is third consecutive superhit.

The movie, which followed up on the success of the 2019 release Driving Licence and 2020 film Ayyappanum Koshiyum, has gone on to rake in Rs 50 crore from the global box office. Jana Gana Mana, which also stars Suraj Venjaramoodu and Mamta Mohandas, was also released in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada under the title Jana 2022.

The film, scripted by Sharis Mohammed, has Prithviraj playing a lawyer who fights the case against a police officer who sought ‘instant’ justice for the alleged rape and murder of a college lecturer. Inspired by true events, the movie also has Shari, Dhruvan, Vaishnavi and Vincy Aloshius in pivotal roles.

Jana Gana Mana’s success also makes it one of the highest grossers in Prithviraj’s career and also the third Malayalam movie after Hridayam and Bheeshmaparvam to enter the Rs 50 crore club this year. The movie is co-produced by Prithviraj Productions and Magic Frames.

Incidentally, the same production combo is also backing Prithviraj’s next release – Kaduva. The ‘mass’ action-entertainer, directed by Shaji Kailas and scripted by Jinu V Abraham, is reportedly set to hit theatres on June 30.

Starring Vivek Oberoi, Samyuktha Menon, Arjun Ashokan, Rahul Madhav, Seema and Baiju Santosh, the movie will have Prithviraj essaying the character of a Mundakkayam-based rubber planter who locks horns with the police officers in the area. The film is also a return to the ‘mass’ action genre for the actor, who had previously teamed up with Shaji Kailas for Simhasanam a decade ago.

Prithviraj is currently shooting for Blessy’s Aadujeevitham in Jordan. The actor will return to Kerala next month and is expected to join the sets of Venu’s Kaapa in July.
