Curry and Cyanide among top 10 movies on Netflix; here’s more about the crime documentary

Curry and Cyanide: The Jolly Joseph Case is ranked number two among Netflix's top-10 films. The 2019 murder case that shocked Kerala is the subject of the true crime documentary. All media outlets covered the infamous Koodathayi case in great detail in 2019, which sparked multiple speculations about the accused, Jolly Joseph.

On December 22, the OTT platform released the documentary, which explores the investigation into the unexplained deaths of six members of the same family who resided in Koodathayi, Kozhikode. Curry and Cyanide: The Jolly Joseph Case is streaming in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Hindi, English, and Malayalam. The chilling details that came to light years after murders were shown in the documentary's trailer, which was out on December 13.

The Koodathayi case

Between 2002 and 2016, six members of a family living in Koodathayi, in northern Kerala, mysteriously passed away. To everyone's surprise, Jolly Joseph, the first deceased's daughter-in-law, was placed under arrest in this case in 2019. Suspicion was levelled at her because she was the only one with the victims when they died.

The truth was eventually made public in 2019 when the bodies were exhumed and tests were done to ascertain the cause of death, despite Jolly's success in avoiding the suspicions of the police and others following each death. Jolly told the police she had poisoned six members of her family, including her then-husband, with cyanide.

A TV serial on Flowers TV named Koodathayi was based on this incident. Muktha, Mallika Sukumaran, and Kollam Thulasi played the lead roles in this serial. In 2020, Spotify also released Death, Lies, and Cyanide, narrated by renowned journalist Sashi Kumar. The original podcast had ten episodes.

Top 10 movies on Netflix this week

The Telugu movie Aadikeshava is ranked third on Netflix's list of the top 10 films, while Vijay's Leo came in tenth. Among the others on the list are Jawan, Dhak Dhak, and Sajini Shinde Ka Viral Video.
