Film lovers received the news of Kollywood filmmaker Venkat Prabhu and Tollywood actor Naga Chaitanya joining hands with much excitement. The movie was titled Custody a while ago, and makers unveiled the power-packed first look poster, too, featuring the actor in the role of a cop.

Srinivasaa Chitturi has bankrolled the bilingual project under the banner of Srinivasaa Silver Screen. One of the highlights of the movie is expected to be its music composed jointly by father-son duo Ilaiyaraaja and Yuvan Shankar Raja. Krithi Shetty is playing the female lead in the movie.

The team has now announced the film's release date. The action drama will hit the screens in Tamil and Telugu on May 12. The project marks Venkat's Telugu debut and Chaitanya's Tamil debut. Aravind Swamy will be seen essaying the antagonist's character while Sarath Kumar, Priyamani and Sampath Raj among others are playing key roles in it.

Abburi Ravi has penned dialogues for the Telugu version of Custody while Venkat Raajen and SR Kathir have handled editing and cinematography respectively. Sathish Krishnan has choreographed action sequences and Mahesh Mathew has helmed stunt scenes. The makers are yet to announce their digital partner.

Venkat Prabhu's last directorial project was the rom-com Manmadha Leelai (streaming on aha Tamil), starring Ashok Selvan, Riya Suman, Samyuktha Hegde and Smruthi Venkat. Naga Chaitanya, on the other hand, was last seen in Bollywood flick Laal Singh Chaddha along with Aamir Khan.

He has had Bangarraju and Thank You this year; while the former minted money at the box office, the latter turned out to be a flop.
