Venkat Prabhu's Custody is set for a release in Tamil and Telugu on May 12. Starring Naga Chaitanya in lead, it marks his Tamil debut and the former's Telugu debut. Krithi Shetty, Arvind Swami, Sarath Kumar and Priyamani play pivotal characters in the movie which has music by Ilaiyaraaja and Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Billed as an action drama which revolves around a police constable, its story is about the protagonist who is ready to go to any extent in ensuring that the antagonist stays alive. The conflict between the two forms the crux of the movie.

During a media interaction which happened at Hyderabad the other day, the project's producer Srinivasaa Chitturi was asked about choosing Venkat Prabhu as the director for his production venture, and the former shared an interesting connection with Mankatha, which the latter helmed more than a decade ago.

He revealed that he has been wanting to associate with Venkat ever since he watched Gambler (Mankatha's Telugu version).Though he tried for the collaboration a few times, it is only now that the duo got an opportunity to join hands together.

Srinivasaa also added that the director's films from the beginning have had a universal appeal and that it was another reason for him to approach him for a movie.

When Naga Chaitanya was asked how his constable character in Custody is different from the ones Vishal essayed in Laththi and Soori played in Viduthalai in recent times, the actor said that his characterization is quite a contrast to the protagonist of those two projects.
