If the name JP Thuminad conjures up images of his characters from, say, Sapta Sagaradaache Ello Side B or Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye, well, he’s unveiling a very different avatar with Su From So, a film that he’s written and directed for Raj B Shetty’s Lighter Buddha Films. The first single from the film, a peppy dance number called Danks Anthem was released today, at the end of which it was also revealed that it will be in theatres shortly. Su From So will hit theatres on July 25, 2025.
Not much is known about Su from So, but the title poster hinted at it being a comedy surrounding a death in a household, with people gathered around. The Danks Anthem provides the first visuals from the film, and is set in a household on the night before a wedding it seems, with family and friends gathered for a reception. The tipsy ones then bust a move or two, with JP, Prakash Thuminad and others showing just how nimble-footed they are.

The song, a fun take on the ‘enne number’ that’s a routine trope in Kannada cinema, has been written by Raj, and sung by Anurag Kulkarni. The film also stars Shaneel Gautham, Sandhya Arakere, Deepak Rai Panaje, Mime Ramdas, among others. Su from So is Raj’s next production venture after 2023’s Toby. It remains to be seen if the actor-filmmaker’s involvement was limited to writing lyrics and production, or if he has a role in the film as well.

In Kannada, Raj was last seen in the anthology Roopanthara. His next is 45, the directorial debut of composer Arjun Janya, in which he joins Real Star Upendra and Century Star Shivarajkumar. 45 was announced as an August 15 theatrical release, but the buzz is that it will be pushed ahead, owing to delays with the film's extensive VFX work.
