When Darling Krishna was approached for the lead role in RC Studios’ first venture, Father, directed by Rajmohan, he was given a narration spanning nearly an hour and a half. As has been practice for a while, Krishna was joined by his wife Milana Nagaraj during the narration, at the end of which she declared that he absolutely had to do the film.

“It’s a beautiful subject, with the highlight being the climax. It is so emotionally charged and the incidents that occur are very impressive. Normally, after a narration, I take a couple of days to revert whether I am onboard or not, but with this film, Milana was adamant that I take it up immediately,” said Krishna at the film’s muhurtha on April 27, adding that Father will be a film that will be remembered for years to come. “It is a wonderful family drama,” Krishna added.

While the actor remained tight-lipped about details of his character, the main plot of the film follows his relationship with his father, played by veteran actor Prakash Raj. Krishna is paired with Amrutha Iyengar, their third collaboration after Love Mocktail and Love Mocktail 2. The film also stars popular Telugu actor Sunil in a pivotal role.

Father is the first film that Krishna has taken up since deciding to give romantic dramas a break. Following the immense success of his debut directorial Love Mocktail, the actor had chosen to do a bunch of films in the genre, explaining that it is a personal favourite owing to its repeat value. However, these films did not work at the box office, with Krishna’s roles in these films lacking diversity. His repeated pairing with Milana was also pointed out and the couple had been working towards avoiding that, unless, of course there were roles that demanded their presence, like, for instance, her character in Kousalya Supraja Rama.
