A moving retelling of the age-old Puranic myth of Lord Vishnu's 10 avatars, the film is an ode to tradition, loyalty, and the age-old conflict between good and evil. Its breathtaking cinematography, classic costume design, and elaborate sets guarantee an emotionally and visually intense encounter.

Plot summary and setting

Set in Maharashtra's gorgeous Konkan area, the story takes root there. Babuli Mestri, played by Prabhavalkar, is an elderly performer of Dashavatari, a sacred folk theatre practice. The plot revolves around him. In spite of his worsening vision, Babuli remains steadfast in his dedication to maintaining the art form. The plot thickens as he appears to assume the persona of the ferocious Rudra avatar during his last Mahashivratri performance, when the boundary between his onstage persona and true divinity begins to dissolve. Duty, religion, and destiny are larger, more universal issues, and this event starts a profoundly individual and spiritual journey along those lines.

The film's director, Subodh Khanolkar, spoke about the project's impact on his life, describing it as "a cherished corner of my childhood memories" influenced by the Dashavatari performances he witnessed in his hometown in Konkan. He hoped the film would have an impact well beyond India's borders by capturing the spirit of the country's rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and artistic expressions.
