Vicky Kaushal's Mahavatar was announced in 2024. While it was originally scheduled for a Christmas 2026 release, the film has been postponed. Now, a report claimed that Deepika Padukone is in talks for the female lead in Kaushal's Mahavatar as she recently visited Maddock Films’ office in Mumbai. Earlier, it was also reported that Deepika might join Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, but now the buzz is that she might be appearing in Mahavatar.
Mid-Day reported that Deepika Padukone is in talks to star in Vicky Kaushal's Mahavatar as the female lead. The source shared, “The team has been looking for someone who can bring gravitas and emotional depth to the role written opposite Parashurama. Deepika fits that space perfectly. Conversations have begun, but they are still at an early stage. She is among the top names the studio has engaged with.”
The source also mentioned that although the mythological drama is centred on the story of Lord Parasurama, the female lead character's graph will be a strong as well. “Amar Kaushik has been clear from the beginning that the character must have equal footing in the narrative,” added the source.
Speaking about Mahavatar, filmmaker Amar Kaushik told Bollywood Hungama that it is a huge passion project. When he was in school in Arunachal Pradesh, there used to be a Parshuram Kund close by, and he used to ask his mother who Parshuram was, but he was told not to talk much about it.
"I was only told that he was quite hot-tempered. Hence, I was quite fascinated by the character. When I read about it later in life, I was wowed and kept wondering, ‘Will I ever be able to make a film on this subject?’” he said.
“Now, I have reached a stage where I have an understanding and experience of using VFX. That gave me the confidence to pull it off," Kaushik continued.
Meanwhile, Dinesh Vijan-produced Maddock Films' Mahavatar is the third collaboration between the producer and Vicky after Zara Hatke Zara Bachke and the blockbuster Chhaava.
