The re-release of iconic films in Telugu states in the recent months has done a lot good in reintroducing classics to a new generation of audiences. It also brings back the nostalgia of the good-ol’ days for viewers who’ve already watched the films. While most of the recent Telugu re-releases were of films from the 90s and the 2000s, get ready to go back in time further in the coming months.

Celebrating ANR

Annapurna Studios, whose legacy spreads across seven decades in Telugu cinema, plans to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of legendary actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao in style this September. Supriya Yarlagadda, granddaughter of ANR and actor-producer, confirmed that the production house plans to organise a film fest celebrating the iconic films of ANR soon.

Some of the films that are to feature in the festival include the tragedy Devadasu (starring ANR, Savithri), the reincarnation saga Mooga Manasulu (ANR, Savithri, Jamuna), Premabhishekam (ANR, Jayasudha, Sridevi) and Manam (ANR, Nagarjuna, Naga Chaitanya, Shriya Saran, Samantha and others). That’s not all, Nagarjuna’s Shiva too, after much public demand, is gearing up for a re-release.

Shiva - coming soon

The formalities related to Shiva’s remastered version are more or less complete and the film will make it to screens by the end of this year. The production house will also re-release the blockbuster Manmadhudu commemorating Nagarjuna’s birthday (August 29) in the coming week. The film, directed by Vijaya Bhaskar, was written by Trivikram and produced by Nagarjuna himself.

The banner, which produced a handful of OTT shows like Loser (which had two seasons on ZEE5), The Baker and the Beauty, is also releasing Boys Hostel, the Telugu dubbed version of Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare on August 25, in collaboration with Chai Bisket Films (the makers behind films like Writer Padmabhushan and Mem Famous).
