It was announced that Subhrajit Mitra will direct Devi Chowdhurani for the big screen. It was also rumored that the project has been stalled. But the director, on August 15, confirmed the day of shooting.

Subhrajit made a big announcement on the eve of the 77th Independence Day. He posted two posters of the film and wrote 'Mark your calendars! The countdown begins as we set sail on an unforgettable filmmaking voyage. Principal Photography kicks off on November 15, 2023, on a three months journey. Stay tuned for an epic tale that will leave you spellbound!' The film will be released during Durga Puja in 2024.

Earlier, Subhrajit alleged that ‘a group of people from the Bengali entertainment fraternity’ was trying to jeopardise’ his film. Talking to OTTplay, the director said, “Some people with an ulterior motive are spreading a rumour that this film is shelved. Which is a lie. Some people are telling this to crew members who are scheduled to work with us. And this is affecting their morale.” The director also took to social media to express his frustration.

In the film, Srabanti Chatterjee will play the titular role and Prosenjit will play Bhabani Pathak. Arjun Chakrabarty will play Rangaraj and Sabyasachi Chakrabarty will play Harballabh. Kinjal Nanda, Bibriti Chattopadhyay, and Darshana Banik will be in other roles.

Why is the director so late in starting the shooting? In an interview with Aajkaal Dot In, the director said that he had to avoid the monsoon. “Since the shooting will be in a dense forest, it can not be done in this weather.”

Srabanti Chattopadhyay had to learn riding a horse, fencing, and fight with sticks for the film. Sabyasachi Chakrabarty is changing his look naturally. The veteran actress Sohag Sen will take a workshop with the actors in the film. Vicky Kaushal's father, Shyam Kaushal, will supervise the stunt. Somnath Kundu will be in charge of makeup. Bickram Ghosh is the music director of the film. It will be produced by Edited Motion Pictures.
