Arun Matheswaran's period actioner 'Captain Miller', starring Dhanush, was set to arrive in cinemas on December 15 but the makers have now announced that the film will not be a 2023 release. Instead, they share, the film will be a Pongal 2024 release meaning that it will most likely be out in theatres on January 12th, which happens to be a Friday.

"Our #CAPTAINMILLER is all set for a grand Release this PONGAL / SANKRANTI 2024 馃槑" reads the latest social media post from Sathya Jyothi Films, the production house bankrolling this ambitious project.

Dhanush stars in the titular role in the film which is set in the 1930s/40s British India and is said to be centred around a famed outlaw named 'Miller' who pulls off some of the daring loots and heists along with his crew. A leaked synopsis of the film adds that Miller must choose to either confront the challenges posed to him or continue escaping the clutches of law. Priyanka Arul Mohan is also part of the cast along with Shiva Rajkumar (Dhanush's older brother in the film), Sundeep Kishan, John Kokken, Edward Sonnenblick, Nivedhithaa Sathish, Nassar and others. GV Prakash Kumar is the film's music composer.

As far as the postponement of the theatrical release is concerned, the makers have yet to disclose the exact reason but one gathers that they wished to avoid the potential impact caused by films like Salaar and Dunki. The latter, a Hindi film starring Shah Rukh Khan, is out on December 21st with Prashanth Neel's magnum opus set to release the following day on December 22nd. The current speculations on social media suggest that team 'Captain Miller' wishes to have a longer and safer theatrical run so as to realize the film's complete box office potential, especially considering Dhanush's 'pan-India' presence.

Regardless, the pre-release "buzz" surrounding Captain Miller is quite positive and encouraging with Dhanush's look and charisma in the promotional material piquing curiosity. The film, after all, might face competition during Pongal 2024 from other releases but the film currently boasts a great chance of emerging a big success during its theatrical run.
