Dhanush’s Ilaiyaraaja biopic – Captain Miller director Arun Matheswaran to helm the project?

Dhanush, the popular star of Tamil cinema, has been going through a highly exciting phase in his film career. The multiple National Award winner is now simultaneously handling his roles as both an actor and a filmmaker and has a massive line-up of upcoming projects in his kitty. As reported earlier, Dhanush is set to play the role of maestro Ilaiyaraaja, in the upcoming biopic based on the legendary musician’s life.

Even though the project was officially announced by the production banners Mercuri Movies and Connekkt Media, the team has not officially revealed the director of the film, so far. Earlier, it was reported that renowned filmmaker R Balki might helm the project. But now, the grapevine suggests that Arun Matheswaran might direct the untitled film.

Arun Matheswaran to direct Dhanush’s Ilaiyaraaja biopic

If the recent reports are to be believed, Arun Matheswaran, who recently teamed up with Dhanush for the period action thriller Captain Miller, has come on board for the Ilaiyaraaja biopic. The grapevine suggests that the talented filmmaker, who is a diehard fan of the legendary musician, has already signed the dotted line. The rumour mills also suggest that the filmmaker is set to begin the scripting of the highly anticipated project, very soon. However, none of these reports are confirmed officially yet.

According to the official announcement of the Ilaiyaraaja biopic, which was dropped in November, last year, the highly anticipated project is expected to go on floors in October 2024. The makers are planning to wrap up the filming by the first quarter of 2025. The untitled project, on the other hand, is slated to release by the second half of 2025. The makers are expected to officially announce the director of the project and the rest of the star cast, very soon.

Dhanush’s work front

The talented actor-director recently launched his 50th outing in cinema, which has been titled Raayan. The project, which is directed by Dhanush himself, features a stellar star cast including Kalidas Jayaram, Sundeep Kishan, Selvaraghavan, SJ Suryah, Prakash Raj, Aparna Balamurali, Dushara Vijayan, and others in the pivotal roles. The actor is also teaming up with Shekhar Kammula for an upcoming project, which has been tentatively titled DNS.
