Dheeran is an upcoming Malayalam film, which is slated to release on July 4, 2025. The film features Rajesh Madhavan, along with Jagadish, Sudheesh, Ashokan, Vineeth and Manoj K Jayan. Apart from Rajesh Madhavan, the rest of the actors made their debut in the 1980s. Even among them, Jagadish, and Ashokan starred in the hugely popular In Harihar Nagar. The film’s cast drew comparisons between the 1990 film and the upcoming Rajesh Madhavan-starrer, revealing which character would come closest to the iconic Appukkuttan from In Harihar Nagar.
In Harihar Nagar, helmed by the director duo of Siddique-Lal, narrated the tale of four friends as they pursued the new girl in town. All lead characters are popular, but there is a special fondness for the dim-witted Appukuttan (played by Jagadish).
As the older cast of Dheeran came together for a chat with Cue Studio, Sudheesh spoke about how people are still fans of In Harihar Nagar.
While stating that he became a fan of Jagadish after watching In Hari Har Nagar, Sudheesh said, “This film is a lot like that. Of course, there are changes in tune with the times. In Harihar Nagar, they are thick friends and (it shows) the problems between them. But in Dheeran, each character has a different attitude and has different goals.”
Jagadish chipped in by saying that Sudheesh's character has the 'brain' of the dim-witted Appukkuttan.
The trailer of the upcoming film, touted to be a comedy drama, was recently released, featuring Rajesh Madhavan as Eldhose, alias the Dheeran of the movie. Jagadish, who has been seen in more serious roles lately, Sudheesh, and Ashokah appear as his uncles.
The film’s announcement piqued the interest of Malayalam cinephiles as it marks the directorial debut of Devadath Shaji, best known for co-writing Mammootty-led Bheeshma Parvam.
On the other hand, Rajesh Madhavan was last seen in Basil Joseph-starrer Maranamass as a serial killer. Maranamass is streaming on SonyLiv and OTTplay Premium.
