Kannada actor Rishi has been busy with projects in Tollywood ever since his debut in that industry with the web series Shaitaan that came on Disney+ Hotstar, in which he played the protagonist Bali. Following the success of Shaitaan, which saw Rishi in a role with shades of grey, he signed up for a lead role in a film directed by Gopi G. This as-yet-untitled project, which is an action-based political drama, has Rishi collaborating with actors Thiruveer and Faria Abdullah. The second film that Rishi took up has him in antagonist mode again, where he is pitted against none other than Nandamuri Balakrishna. Tentatively called NBK109, the film also stars Bobby Deol.

Rishi in Kamal Haasan's next?

Turns out, Telugu cinema is not the only industry that’s shown interest in Rishi. The actor, whose much-delayed Ramana Avatara is finally in theatres , is apparently set for a Tamil film debut. There have been hushed whispers that he’s bagged a role in a major Tamil production, which, when asked to confirm, Rishi did not deny. Speaking to Kadakk Cinema for the promotions of Ramana Avatara, Rishi was asked about the rumours that he’s a part of Mani Ratnam’s next, the Kamal Haasan-led Thug Life.

Rishi’s reaction to the question was a big knowing smile, which answered more than words could. He then said that he will talk about it in the next interview, but did not deny the development. Back home in Kannada, Rishi has not announced any new signing since Rudra Garuda Purana, which sees him in cop mode again after Kavaludaari.

Ramana Avatara is his first major theatrical release since Sarvajanikarige Suvarnavakaasha. His next as leading man, Nodi Swamy Ivanu Irode Heege was a direct-to-OTT outing on Zee5, while his other big screen appearances were only cameos. Addressing the gaps between his releases, Rishi has been quoted as saying that there is no dearth of offers, but for him as an actor, it is important to inspire confidence in audiences that it is okay to spend a couple of hundred bucks and buy a ticket to watch him onscreen.
