Any actor who has been in the industry for decades has passed on some roles that have gone on to become iconic. And if that actor is Aamir Khan, with the kind of résumé he has, there will be many movies that he had to let go of. Today, as Aamir Khan launched the Aamir Khan: Cinema Ka Jadugar film festival, he sat down with Javed Akhtar, and they both spoke about Khan’s filmography. It was here that Aamir opened up about the movies he had to let go of and why. He ended up confirming that he passed on Darr, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and Lage Raho Munna Bhai.
At the launch event of Aamir Khan: Cinema Ka Jadugar film festival, Aamir Khan was asked by a media representative whether he regrets passing on some films. He said, “Darr jo main kar raha tha, phir maine nahi kiya... That was for other reasons, not for creative reasons. And even now I feel woh sahi hi hua because jo sur Yash ji pakad rahe the, woh Shah Rukh was suiting better. In retrospect, agar woh main karta toh kuch aur hi ho jata because I was looking at it differently. I don’t really regret that because woh film achi bani aur kamyab bhi hui...... Main uss sur mein nahi khelne wala tha.”
The actor, during the conversation, wondered what other movies he had passed on when an audience member reminded him of Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Aamir added, “Oh yes, I heard the script and told the writer that it would suit Salman Khan better. That was my reaction... I liked the script of the film, but asked them to take it to Salman Khan... But the writer didn't go to Salman, he went to Kabir Khan... And then Kabir went to Salman. But that was my reaction. Even for Munna Bhai, Raju wanted me to play a part... The day he came to me with the script, he said that things had changed and the film was more of a sequel to the first part.”
