Filmmaker and Ayushmann Khurrana's wife Tahira Kashyap was diagnosed with Stage 0 breast cancer in 2018. Back then, she underwent a mastectomy. While her treatment was ongoing, she went bald and had no qualms to share her picture on social media. However, her parents were not too happy after she shared the bald picture of herself on social media. In a recent interview, Tahira revealed how her parents reacted to the post. Read on...
Tahira, who made her directorial debut in 2024, spoke to Filmfare recently and said that her parents were upset with her. She also revealed that they refused to talk to her and forced her to remove the picture. Tahira said, "My parents got really upset with me when I put my bald picture of myself (after the cancer diagnosis). A bald look for a woman is synonymous for a disaster somehow, so they refused to talk to me and were forcing me to take it down. But I said, ‘I am not doing that. I am celebrating right now, which you need to understand.’ They actually thought I have lost it. They were like, 'How can you celebrate physical illness?'"
In the same interview, the filmmaker revealed that she did a video call with them and asked them to be happy for her. She added, "I didn’t know how to make my parents speak to me, so I video-called my mother and showed myself to her. I said, ‘Look at me, this is how I look right now, and I am loving it.’ I was also wearing goggles, and she sort of laughed and smiled. And then I told her, ‘This is how life is, and I am happy, and you need to be happy for me.’ They were still clueless about ‘feeling happy’."
After successfully battling cancer, Tahira often talks about the illness on social media and tries to spread awareness as much as possible.
Meanwhile, Tahira's directorial debut Sharma Ji Ki Beti featured Divya Dutta, Saiyami Kher, and Sakshi Tanwar in lead roles. It is available to watch on Prime Video.
