Diljit Dosanjh on Amar Singh Chamkila: 'I hope agar Chamika sunn raha hai toh usse bhi accha lage'

Imtiaz Ali's highly anticipated film, Amar Singh Chamkila is all set to release on Netflix on 12th April. Starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra in the lead roles, the makers of the film released the trailer of the film today and it is receiving all the love from the audiences as well as critics. The film is a biological drama which is based on the real-life story of Punjab's popular musician Amar Singh Chamkila. Today, at the film's trailer launch event, Diljit revealed that the late singer is still an inspiration to a lot of musicians out there.

Speaking about Amar Singh Chamkila, Diljit said, "Chamkila ka naam hum kitne time se sun rahe hai. As a musician, mujhe lagta hai ki Punjab mein ya Punjab ke bahar jitne bhi musicians hai, woh abhi bhi Chamkila ko follow karte hain. Abhi bhi uski composition ko follow karte hai. (We have been hearing Chamkila's name for a long time. As a musician, I feel that in Punjab or even outside Punjab, all the musicians still follow Chamkila. They still follow his compositions.)"

"Woh lyrics ki choice ko agar aap side me rakh de, woh jaise songs compose karta tha woh scientist level ki baat hai. Aajtak log usko ek ek line pe gaana ban raha hai. Hum aajtak usko follow karte hai." (If you set aside the choice of lyrics, the way he used to compose songs was at a scientific level. People are still making songs based on each line of his. We still follow him)," he added. 

Speaking further about how he initially reacted when he got to know about Intiaz Ali making a film on the musician, Diljit said in Hindi, "When we found out that Imtiaz Sir is making a film on this, we thought he wouldn't be able to because all the songs are in Punjabi, so it can't be made in Hindi. But what Imtiaz sir has brought up is that Chamkila sang songs for people on stage but what was his own story, what his songs could be, what his story could be, we never thought of it from this perspective. And then when AR Rahman sir is doing the music for the film, nothing bigger than this could have happened for us."

"I hope Chamkila agar sun raha hai toh woh bhi santusht ho ki humne jo kaam kiya hai woh usko bhi accha lage, phir sab theek hai. (I hope if Chamkila is listening, he is also satisfied that he liked the work we have done, then everything is fine), Diljit Dosanjh said. 

Amar Singh Chamkila starring Diljit Dosanjh with Parineeti Chopra and directed by Imtiaz Ali is all set to hit Netflix on April 12, 2024.
