Dhanush-starrer Thiruchitrambalam has exceeded the expectations in terms of box office numbers. The movie, which was released in theatres last Thursday, grossed around 50 crores from across the globe, thanks to unanimous positive response from critics and the audience. The film marked the fourth collaboration between Dhanush and director Mithran Jawahar.

The first three outings of the duo, Yaaradi Nee Mohini, Kutty and Uthamaputhiran, were remakes of Telugu films Aadavari Matalaku Arthale Verule, Arya and Ready respectively. Thiruchitrambalam is their first straight movie and the actor-filmmaker duo has expressed excitement on the film's success from their respective social media handles.

Sun Pictures, which has bankrolled the project, has unveiled a video in which Mithran has spoken about his experience of working with Dhanush. He said that the two of them have known each other for a long time, and what has kept them going is the mutual trust between them.

He said, "All the films which we have worked together till date happened by chance. During our regular conversations, we aren't keen on discussing the possibility of joining hands for a movie. Thiruchitrambalam, too, was unplanned. Somehow, a thread which we developed based on our conversation turned out to be a full-fledged movie."

All praise for Dhanush's current popularity across the globe, Mithran noted that it is the actor's relentless hard work and dedication which has made him what he is today.

"Thiruchitrambalam is his first release in theatres after back-to-back OTT releases. But he wasn't too concerned about its box office performance. He was aware of the fact that a well-made movie with entertaining elements would impress the audience. We wanted the film to cater to all sections of the audience," Mithran added.
