Director Muthaiya’s next to be emotional teenage drama, will star his son Vijay Muthaiya

Director Muthaiya, who last helmed the Tamil film Kathar Basha Endra Muthuramalingam starring Arya in the lead role, is set to direct his next feature. Interestingly, the film will mark the debut of the filmmaker's son, Vijay Muthaiya.

The project went on floors on Thursday following an official inaugural ceremony. The film, which is yet to get a title, is bankrolled by Ramesh Pandian under the banner KKR Cinemas.

Muthaiya’s next starts rolling

Muthaiya, who has made films like Kutti Puli, Viruman, Pulikkuthi Pandi and recently Kathar Basha Endra Muthuramalingam, is known for his strong emotional dramas rooted in rural Tamil Nadu backdrop. The director has locked the details of his next project.

Muthaiya is next set to direct his son, in the latter’s acting debut. With Dharshini playing the female lead, the film will be produced by Ramesh Pandian under KKR Cinemas banner. The film went on floors on Thursday. The cast is expected to be comprising of fresh faces with the story set against the backdrop of Madurai city. Touted to be an emotional teenage drama, Muthaiya's new film will have its shoot completed at a single stretch. The makers have also built a cinema theatre set to shoot an action sequence for a week.

The film's technical crew consists of cinematography by M Sukumar, with editing handled by Venkat Raajen. Jen Martin has scored the music for the film. Veeramani Ganesan is the art director. The film is expected to release sometime this year.

Muthaiya’s body of work

Director Muthaiya made his directorial debut with the 2013 film Kutti Puli starring Sasikumar in the lead role. The filmmaker is known to helm rural stories with caste-oriented angles. Most of his films are set in Madurai, Ramanathapuram and Thirunelveli. He has frequently collaborated with Sasikumar and directed actor Karthi in two films, namely Viruman and Komban. Muthaiya last directed Kathar Basha Endra Muthuramalingam starring Arya, Siddhi Idnani, Prabhu, and others.
