About Toys For Tots program
In 1947, Diane Hendricks, the wife of Major Bill Hendricks of the US Marine Corps Reserve, sparked the idea of Toys For Tots when she crafted a doll for a needy child to receive at Christmas. Upon realising the lack of any organisation to deliver the doll to the child, the Hendricks couple launched an initiative to provide toys to less fortunate children. After an overwhelmingly successful first year, the Marine Corps embraced the program and expanded its reach across the country.
