After months of speculation, the makers of Doctor have officially announced that the project, starring Sivakarthikeyan in the lead, will hit the screens on October. Kotapadi J Rajesh, who has produced the film along with the hero's Sivakarthikeyan Productions, took to Twitter to announce the same.
He tweeted, "Set all the speculations aside. Get ready for your laughter shot! #Doctor is coming to the big screen in October 2021." Movie buffs are now curious to know the film's release date. Vishal-Arya's Enemy had announced its release date as October 14 recently, and there are unconfirmed reports of Arya-starrer Aranmanai 3, too, releasing around the same time.
If Doctor, too, makes it to theatres on the occasion of Dussehra festival, it will be an exciting clash at the box office, with three much-awaited films of different stars, all belonging to different genres. Doctor, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, was supposed to release on March 26, 2021, but the makers opted out in the last minute, thanks to the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections which were slated to happen in the week that followed. They postponed the release in the second week of May, but the second wave of the pandemic spoiled their plans.
Rumours of the movie going to OTT were rife since then. As the uncertainty continued about opening of theatres, there were strong speculation of the movie having a premiere on Disney+ Hotstar. The Tamil Nadu state government's decision to grand permission to movie halls to open recently changed the makers' mind. With a few films already announced in September, they have now decided to release their project in October. Priyanka Arul Mohan is making her Tamil debut with Doctor which has Anirudh scoring music. Meanwhile, director Nelson had started shooting his third film, Beast, a couple of months ago after the restrictions for shooting were lifted.
