Like most Marvel movies, the hype around Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is big. With Benedict Cumberbatch reprising his role as Doctor Strange and Sam Raimi directing, the movie is expected to have a few surprises in store for the fans.

The new trailer, which was released at the Super Bowl, hints at one of the big surprises – Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier aka Professor X from X-Men.

The trailer, which also has Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch, gives a glimpse into the ramifications caused by Strange fiddling with the universe. As the multiverse is open, and new threats are arriving, Strange is taken into a trial, to answer for his mistakes.

At the meeting however, he is greeted by a voice that is all too familiar to the fans of the X-Men series. The undoubtable voice of Patrick Stewart welcomes Strange, giving the first hints at an X-Men appearing in an MCU movie. This appearance follows Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox, which owned the rights to X-Men and Fantastic Four, in 2019.

After Sam Raimi was made the director for the movie, fans have constantly been talking about possible characters that would return or make a first time appearance in the movie.

Stewart retired his fan-favourite character as Charles Xavier in 2017 dystopian film Logan, directed by James Mangold. While his character was put to permanent rest in the R-rated movie, his return, though only his voice has made an appearance so far, is met with much excitement by the fans.

The 28th MCU movie also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Rachel McAdams.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to hit theaters on May 6.
