Ever since Mohanlal-starrer Drishyam 3 was announced by director Jeethu Joseph, one of the most-asked questions was whether the Malayalam and Hindi versions would release together. Drishyam films director Jeethu Joseph had insisted that the Malayalam, which is the original movie, would release first. But now reports have surfaced that Panorama Studios has acquired the theatrical rights for Drishyam 3, leading fans to speculate whether this means Mohanlal and Ajay Devgn films would release together.
Online trackers have reported that Panorama Studios has acquired all rights, including worldwide theatrical rights, and digital rights of Drishyam 3 from Aashirvad Cinemas, which has backed Mohanlal’s first two films from the hugely popular thriller franchise. The studio would also own the Hindi remake rights of the Malayalam film, which is produced by Antony Perumbavoor under his banner.
The news has taken Twitter by storm, and fans are speculating what it means to the Malayalam film. Some of the comments were positive with one fan stating, “Hoping that they will give maximum promotions & a wider release.”
However, fans of Mohanlal and Malayalam cinema were not too keen with one commenting, “ Not a good sign”, while some questioned, “Is this gonna affect our early release plans?” Yet another comment read, “So in other words, it would be a simultaneous release for all versions of #Drishyam3.” There were also those who commented that this could be a good move.
The shoot for Drishyam 3, which went on floors in September 2025, is expected to wrap up by December first week. There were also reports that the makers are planning to release the thriller film in the summer of 2026.
Though Drishyam 3 in Malayalam is nearing its completion, the Hindi version is yet to start rolling. There were initially plans to release an announcement teaser for Ajay Devgn's Drishyam 3, but that was dropped. There have been reports about conflicts over creative control and schedule between the Malayalam and Hindi films makers.
The first Drishyam film, led by Mohanlal, was released in 2013, and was an instant hit for its mind-blowing climax. Jeethu Joseph followed it up with Drishyam 2 in 2021, which made a direct release on Prime Video amid the pandemic, and was an OTT hit. The films spawned several remakes across languages, with Ajay Devgn’s Hindi Drishyam 1 and 2 too garnering much appreciation.
