Director Ponram, who shot to fame with a couple of hit movies with Sivakarthikeyan, surprised film buffs when he announced a project with Vijay Sethupathi. The film was titled DSP and was touted as a cop drama. Popular model Anukreethy VAS was roped in to play the female lead in the movie.

The film, which was released in theatres on December 2, opened to poor reviews from critics and the audience. It revolves around a cop who locks horns with a dreaded goon in Dindigul. How they fight it out forms the rest of the story.

The weak screenplay, run-of-the-mill approach towards the plot and lack of interesting character design were attributed to the movie's dismal response at the box office. Though there were decent expectations surrounding the movie, the film's failure didn't come as a surprise for many.

Its promo videos weren't appealing and had only little to offer for cinephiles in drawing them to movie halls. The film's pre-release event, however, garnered attention, thanks to the presence of Kamal Haasan. The melody, Nalla Irumaa, among a few songs composed by Imman was perhaps the only positive aspect which made movie buffs eager to watch DSP.

The project is now gearing up for its digital premiere. DSP, bankrolled by Kaarthekeyen Santhanam, will drop on Netflix and Sun NXT on December 30. An official announcement on the same has been made by makers now. Prabhakar, Pugazh, Ilavarasu and Gnanasammandhan among others played notable roles in the movie.

Dinesh Subbarayan has choreographed stunt sequences for the film which has cinematography by Venkatesh S and Dinesh Krishnan B. The success celebration of the movie on its second day was criticized heavily on social media.
