Martin Prakkat was chosen as the Best Director for his movie Nayattu, starring Kunchacko Boban and Joju George

Malayalam actors Dulquer Salmaan and Durga Krishna were adjudged the Best Actor and Actress at this year’s Kerala Film Critics Award, which also picked Krishand’s sci-fi film Aavasavyuham as the Best Film and Nayattu filmmaker Martin Prakkat as the Best Director.
The jury for 45th edition of the awards that was headed by Dr George Onakkoor had declared the awards on Wednesday. While Dulquer clinched the Best Actor award for his performances in Kurup and Salute, Unni Mukundan was adjudged the Best Supporting Actor for his role in Meppadiyan.
Basil Joseph’s Minnal Murali was selected as the Second Best Film this year, while his mentor Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Hridayam won the honour for Best Popular Film. Durga Krishna won the award for her role in the thriller Udal, while Manju Pillai was picked as the Best Supporting Actress for her performance in #Home.
Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph’s Drishyam 2 too found a space in the awards list, with the latter sharing the honour for Best Screenplay with Jose K Manuel. Hesham Abdul Wahab took home the award for Best Composer for his tracks in Hridayam and Madhuram, which was a direct-to-OTT release on Sony LIV.
Director Sanu John Varghese, Father Varghese Lal, Binoy Veloor, Sujith Lal and KS Hariharan were lauded by the jury for his stellar debut directorials Aarkariyaam, Rr, Moscow Kavala, Randu and Kalachekon, respectively. VC Abhilash won the jury award for Best Director for his movie Sabash Chandrabose.
This year’s Kerala Film Critics Award also honoured veteran filmmaker Joshiy with a special award, Chalachitraratnam, for his contributions to cinema, while Suresh Gopi will be felicitated with Critics Ruby Jubilee Award. Revathy, Urvashi, Babu Namboothiri and Kochu Preman will also be honoured with special awards.
Salute, Avasavyuham and Madhuram can be streamed on Sony LIV, while Minnal Murali, Nayattu and Kurup are available on Netflix. #Home, Meppadiyan and Randu are streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
