Prime Video has just announced its new series, Dupahiya. Literally translating to a two-wheeler (do pahiya), the show is a crime-comedy-thriller that tries to solve the mystery behind a missing bike. Interestingly, this bike goes missing just when a city boy demands it for dowry from his to-be bride (who has also set off to Mumbai to pursue her dreams). Here's the quirky announcement...
Dupahiya was announced with the face of an actual crime reporter. A village, that prides itself on being free from crime, ends up seeing its first crime ever - the theft of a two-wheeler aka Dupahiya. This is the first ever crime in the village in 25 years (and they were about to celebrate the 25th crime-free anniversary). Thus, the story becomes the highlight, with every villager concerned about the first crime in almost three decades.
Directed by Sonam Nair, Dupahiya is set in the fictional village of Dhakapur. It stars Gajraj Rao, Renuka Shahane, Bhuvan Arora, Sparsh Shrivastava (groom), Shivani Raghuvanshi (bride), and Yashpal Sharma in the lead roles. Apart from Dupahiya, Gajraj Rao will be seen in Dabba Cartel and Jaiprakash Ki Pratibha (both likely to be released this year).
The makers have announced the release date along with the video. Dupahiya will be available to stream on Prime Video starting on March 7. This is when the TV show The Waking of a Nation would be out on SonyLIV (available for streaming via OTTplay Premium). It would be interesting to see which series the viewers end up streaming on the said day.
Director Sonam Nair says, “Bringing Dupahiya to life has been an incredibly fulfilling journey. This series is a celebration of humour, chaos, and the quirks of small-town life, and I couldn’t be prouder of the way it has come together. The incredible ensemble of actors has infused Dupahiya with warmth, humour, and energy, making each character truly memorable and I am certain audiences will enjoy every bit of it as much as we did while making it.”
