Almost two decades ago, when Diganth Manchale broke in to the Kannada film industry, he was seen as a talent to look out for. He had good looks and could act well too, with a decent sense of comic timing to boost. And yet superstardom evaded him, which, Manasaare actor Diganth admits is partially his doing too. While promoting his next release, Edagaiye Apagathakke Karana, Diganth admitted that some of his choices impacted his career.
“In tough times, I took up several films, none of which worked out, which in turn affected my career. In the pursuit of a career break, I did all the films that came my way,” said the actor, urging anyone with acting dreams not to make the mistakes he did in the early part of his career. “You need a lot of patience and the will to work really hard to survive in the industry,” he reckons.
In an earlier conversation with OTTplay during the release of his film Bachelor Party, Diganth had remarked that it is only now that he’s in a comfortable enough position to be picky about the roles he does. Back in the day, he’d said, the Laughing Buddha actor had bills to pay and could not afford to wait for the ‘right scripts’, so he did everything that came his way. The silver lining of his mistakes, though, is that he got himself to a position in which he can take time to carefully choose good scripts. Edagaiye Apagathakke Karana is one such, he’d said.
The Samarth Kadkol directorial is a black comedy about a series of mishaps that befall Diganth’s character, owing to him being a left-hander. Incidentally, the actor is not a natural leftie, but was chosen for the role because Samarth is a fan of Diganth’s prowess with comedy. The film reunites Diganth with his Pancharangi co-star Nidhi Subbaiah, while Dhanu Harsha is also in the lead. Rangi Taranga actors Nirup Bhandari and Radhika Narayan have cameos in the film that will be in theatres on June 13, 2025.
