Talking of the collaboration with the comedian ,Amazon Studios CEO Jennifer Salke had lauded Murphy’s talent as both a comedic and dramatic actor and pointed to his consistency in delighting audiences with delivering original stories and characters, which are entertaining to boot as well. Calling him a ‘legend’ behind the camera as well as in front of it, she had also expressed excitement at being able to welcome Murphy to Amazon.
The move comes on the heels of the star's recent association with Amazon Studios in relation to his 2021 film Coming 2 America, the distribution rights to which had been bagged by the studios from Paramount Pictures after the COVID-19 pandemic had caused snags in its theatrical release. The film, a sequel to Murphy’s 1988 movie Coming to America, had went on to become a big hit on the platform, being streamed countless times in its opening weekend.
Eddie Murphy had previously played the lead in Netflix’s Dolemite Is My Name, which had earned him adulation and a Golden Globe nomination. The Academy Award nominated star will also reportedly team up with the streaming giant for Beverly Hills Cop 4 as producer and lead actor. He is also working on a Netflix comedy as well, in which he will star opposite Jonah Hill.
