Etharkkum Thunindhavan is a social drama starring Suriya in the lead role
After the moderate success of Guitar Kambi Mele Nindru, a segment of Netflix’s anthology Navarasa, Suriya is gearing up for a theatrical release with his next big Etharkkum Thunindhavan. Classified as a social drama, Etharkkum Thunindhavan is supposed to release in late December 2021 or early January 2022 during the Pongal festival. The movie is progressing at a brisk pace and has already entered its last schedule. According to the latest news, the last two songs of the movie will be shot in Chennai and Goa.
The project is helmed by director Pandiraj, who is known for his unique take on life and family dramas. The movie will mark Suriya’s second collaboration with the director after the 2015 movie Pasanga 2 in which the former played an extended cameo alongside Amala Paul.
Etharkkum Thunindhavan has already completed its Coutallam schedule and the cast and crew have returned to Chennai. They will now travel to Goa for the last song and wrap the movie. Priyanka Arul Mohan of Nani’s Gang Leader fame is paired opposite Suriya. The actress is also waiting for the release of her movie Doctor and is filming for Sivakarthikeyan starrer Don.
Meanwhile, Suriya is filming for Jai Bhim which is scheduled to release on Amazon Prime on Diwali. This will make Suriya’s second direct-to-OTT release after Soorarai Pottru, which received overwhelmingly positive responses and reviews. The actor also won the Best Actor Award at various film festivals for the biopic.
Pandiraj, on the other hand, is looking for a comeback after the commercial failure of his last movie Namma Veettu Pillai in which Sivakarthikeyan and Anu Immanuel starred in lead roles. The movie was criticised for the cliche family-conflict storyline. This might be the reason why Pandiraj made Etharkkum Thunindhavan an action-thriller-social drama.
