Durgesh Kumar is widely known for his Banrakas role in the popular web series, Panchayat. His dialogues from the series went viral on social media and became a source of memes. He also did a supporting role in Oscar-selected Laapataa Ladies. However, in a new interview, Durgesh revealed that he had not received any audition calls in 1.5 years despite his fame.
Durgesh Kumar on not getting work despite fame
In an interview with the Times of India, Durgesh Kumar said that it has been very tough. He added that people see the success of Panchayat, but the reality is that even after 12 years of work, it’s a struggle.
"In the last 1.5 years, I haven’t received an audition call from major production houses. I work with smaller producers who recognize my talent...The industry recognizes my work, but I still have to chase casting directors for auditions. Even after Highway and Panchayat, no major production house has offered me a lead role," he said.
Kumar further said that everyone knows him, yet he has not received any major offers. He continues to audition and get selected for some roles, but it’s unpredictable.
'I don't get credit I deserve,' says Durgesh Kumar
The actor also said that the films and shows he does are appreciated and win awards, and he even gets praise from the audience. "Despite working in the industry for 25 years, I don’t get the credit I deserve. However, I’m happy that the audience appreciates my work,” said Durgesh.
