The Raja Saab is all set to hit the screens on January 9, 2026. Directed by Maruthi, the film stars Prabhas, Malavika Mohanan, Riddhi Kumar, and Nidhhi Agerwal in the lead roles. Hindi stars Sanjay Dutt, Zarina Wahab, and Boman Irani play key roles in this big-budget film, which has been made at a whopping cost of ₹350 crore.
A few days ago, we at OTTplay revealed that the makers sold the digital rights of the film for a whopping ₹160 crore. JioHotstar has bagged the digital rights, and once The Raja Saab lands on OTT, it will also be available for streaming on OTTplay Premium.
Now, the biggest question is how much The Raja Saab has fetched through its theatrical rights. A source close to the unit has revealed that the makers sold the theatrical rights for a staggering ₹180 crore.

This deal covers both Telugu states and is the highest-ever theatrical deal for a Prabhas film, surpassing even his biggest hit, Kalki 2898 AD. This means The Raja Saab needs to collect at least ₹150 crore to be in the safe zone.
This is a massive target, and even if the film manages to collect a respectable ₹100 crore, it would still end up as a flop at the box office. The stakes are extremely high, especially since this is the first time director Maruthi is handling a film of such scale with Prabhas.

While such numbers are common for action films, the scenario is slightly different here as The Raja Saab is a horror comedy and not a full-fledged action drama. Strong word of mouth and blockbuster talk will be crucial for the film’s success.
It is also evident that The Raja Saab is primarily centred on the Telugu audience, and the Hindi box-office numbers are not expected to be very strong. While the film is likely to take a solid opening in the South, positive word of mouth will be essential to sustain its run in the Hindi belt.

The makers have promoted the film aggressively over the past few weeks, and the hype has increased significantly since the theatrical trailer was released.
However, The Raja Saab is facing stiff competition at the box office, with films like Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu, Nari Nari Naduma Murari, and Anaganaga Oka Raju releasing around the same time.

Prabhas is returning to the comedy genre after a long gap, and expectations are high as he hasn’t done an out-and-out comedy in recent years. With immense hype and chaos surrounding the project, a blockbuster opening is expected.
The makers are so confident that they are even planning special shows a day in advance to build momentum ahead of the release in Telugu states and a few areas in the US.
Will The Raja Saab manage to cross the crucial ₹150 crore mark and enter the safe zone? Let’s wait and watch.
