He’s the man behind the original scores of Monica, O My Darling, Scam 1992, and Rocket Boys. He has also worked with music composer Mikey McCleary on Amazon Prime Video’s Four More Shots Please! With such beloved musical work to his credit, no one else but the young music composer Achint Thakkar could have won the Composer in Spotlight trophy at the recently-held OTTplay Changemakers Awards 2023.
We caught up with Achint for a candid conversation post-win, during which he confessed that for him, what is most important is to have fun doing what he loves — making music.
Excerpts from a conversation…
What was the first thought that crossed your mind when you received this award?
It’s a little bigger than I thought it would be, so I’m getting used to the size (laughs). But it's very nice. I like it.
How do you define a changemaker?
I think that changemakers are those who are just being themselves and not conforming. These are the people who become changemakers.
You are changing storytelling through the music you make...
I don't know if I'm changing storytelling or anything like that. I love working with the directors that I have been associated with so far, and I just try to have fun. I want to have fun making music, and if it changes the story, then that's great, but it’s secondary.
How do you maintain originality in the music you create, especially at a time when there are so many remixes and rehashed musical content being made?
Again, it goes back to what I said earlier. I'm just doing what I feel is right and what I love, which is making music. It’s not like I make a deliberate attempt to make original music. Good things happen when you are having fun and love what you do.
