Akshara Haasan, who was last seen in Vikram-starrer Kadaram Kondan, is back with Achcham Madam Naanam Payirppu, which started streaming on Amazon Prime Video earlier today. She plays a teenage girl who takes a bold decision in the film which has been directed by debutant Raja Ramamurthy.
Usha Uthup, Malgudi Subha, Suresh Menon and George Maryan among others play important characters in the movie which touches upon a subject which hasn't been touched upon in Tamil cinema. In a chat with OTTplay, Akshara spoke about being choosy in her career, acting for a movie which was meant for an OTT release from the beginning and the possibility of sharing screen space with her legendary father.
The actress said that she wanted to take some time to understand herself, and hence, was not in a hurry to sign movies back to back. She said, "Initially, I felt that I need to know more about myself to play diverse characters. Later, I realized that I should get my feet wet to learn more about the acting process."
Akshara added that she can say yes to a role only when she feels that she would be able to do 100 per cent justice to it. "I should be able to connect with the script and my character. Once that happens, I get immersed in the process completely; I start thinking and behaving like the character."
So, was there any difference in the approach towards acting since the film intended to have a digital release from the beginning?
"The release avenue actually doesn't matter for a performer. At the end of the day, we strive to make a movie interesting with a good team, irrespective of whether it releases in theatres or OTT. We wanted to be as honest as we can in terms of performance and character development," she said.
Her last theatrical release, Kadaram Kondan, was produced by her father, the legendary actor-filmmaker-producer Kamal Haasan. Ask her if the audience can expect them sharing screen space together, and she says excitedly, "I don't know. But I am keeping my fingers crossed."
