After dating each other for years, Darshana Banik and Saurav Das are all set to tie the knot on December 15. On December 14, all the wedding rituals began at the bride’s house in Salt Lake, Kolkata. In a brief chat, Darshana gave OTTplay a lowdown on the day’s plans.

In many cases, Adhibash – a quintessential Bengali ritual to take blessings from the forefathers before getting married – takes place before the wedding. Darshana took part in the ritual a day before. “According to the customs, we have the option of either conducting Adhibas on the day of the wedding or a day before. Since we have a packed schedule in the morning of the big day, we decided to do it in the morning,” she said.

On Thursday, it was her family members and close friends who gathered at her Salt Lake house. She looked pristine in a tussar-coloured base and red-border Banarasi. She wore a wedding headgear and looked all set for saat phera.

Talking about the day, Darshana informed that she had light mehendi painted on her palms. “I will wear alta on the wedding day. I just had a little bit of mehendi. Adhibash took place later in the day. There will be Biddhi – another ritual. My family organised aiburobhat and later in the evening, I will wear shankha pola as per our family tradition,” she said.

What is on the menu of aiburobhat? Darshana jokingly said, “My family members said brides often keep unwell before getting married and I am no exception. I was a little unwell. I had a bout of fever and felt a little nauseous. I will not eat much.”
