Exclusive! Is Sohini Sarkar the new Satyabati in Srijit’s Byomkesh on Hoichoi?

Srijit Mukherji was long scheduled to work on Byomkesh Bakshi’s iconic piece, Durgo Rohoshyo. The film rights of this Sharadindu story was with Shadow Films. However, Dev made headlines as he emerged as the newest Byomkesh Bakshi on the block and Srijit was replaced by Birsa Dasgupta as the director of the film. OTTplay has reported earlier that Srijit will now be directing Byomkesh on OTT with Anirban Bhattacharya in lead. He joined hands with Hoichoi,which has the digital rights for the same. He will be making the ninth season of Byomkesh.

Srijit took to his social media handle to confirm the news. He posted a photo of his silhouette with a hashtag, ‘On my own terms’.

As per sources, Anirban Bhattacharya will be seen as the sleuth. However, Ridhima Ghosh might be replaced as Satyabati. As per industry sources, Sohini Sarkar may be seen as Satyabati. However, there has been no confirmation from the makers. Sohini has been playing Satyabati opposite Abir Chatterjee on the big screen. It is to be seen if the actress decides to play the same character in OTT as well.

Meanwhile, Bhaswar Chatterjee will be seen as the new Ajit – Byomkesh’s Byomkesh’s friend and assistant – in season eight – Byomkesh O Pinjrapol. Based on Byomkesh O Chiriyakhana, the show has Anirban as the creator and Sudipto Roy as the director. Ridhima continues to play Satyabati in season eight. The shooting of season eight took place in December. If all goes well, the series will be dropped in April or May on Hoichoi.
