Director MC Jithin, who had helmed the sports comedy Nonsense a few years ago, is gearing up for his second directorial, which has Kunchacko Boban in the lead. The upcoming movie will be produced by Ashiq Usman, Sameer Thahir and Shyju Khalid.
Confirming the news with OTTplay, a source from the team tells us, “Kunchacko Boban and Grace Antony have been roped in as the leads for the film, which is based on Jithin's story.” The source says that the team is yet to decide on when the movie will go on floors as there are a few practical issues they are trying to navigate during the pandemic. “The movie will go on floors this year,” says the source. Jithin's debut film Nonsense is touted to be the first Indian film to be based on BMX bicycle racing. The movie, which hit theatres in 2017, had Rinosh George, Vinay Forrt and Shruti Ramachandran as part of the cast.
Meanwhile, Kunchacko is currently busy with Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval’s Nna Thaan Case Kodu in which he plays a North Kerala native named Kozhummal Rajeevan. The film, which discusses a socially relevant issue, has the actor in a different get-up, speaking a dialect he hasn’t tried before in his movies.
The film also has Rajesh Madhavan and Tamil actress Gayathrie Shankar in the lead. About 80% of Nna, Thaan Case Kodu is set in a court; however, it is not a typical courtroom drama, said the movie’s director Ratheesh in an earlier interview with OTTplay.
Kunchacko’s latest release was director Kamal KM’s Pada, which also has Joju George, Vinayakan and Dileesh Pothan. The movie is based on the true incident in 1996 when a group of Ayyankala Pada members barged into the Palakkad’s district collector WR Reddy’s office chamber and held him hostage for about 10 hours, demanding that the Kerala government retract the amendment made to the Scheduled Tribes Land Act of 1975 that allotted land to the minority community.
The actor has also completed shooting for Mahesh Narayanan’s Ariyippu and Fellini TP’s Ottu.
