Exclusive! Lojja: Priyanka Sarkar’s Hoichoi show to be made in Hindi?

Priyanka Sarkar’s Lojja was dropped on Hoichoi in March. Soon after its release, the web series received a lot of appreciation from viewers and critics. Directed by Aditi Ray and penned by Samragnee Bandyopadhyay, the show delves into the deep dark reality of verbal abuse by spouses.

After its success on Hoichoi, the show now might get a Hindi makeover. According to sources, Lojja’s rights are being acquired by Disney+ Hotstar. The actors have not been finalised yet. However, the sources said the lead roles will be played by eminent national actors and actresses and the project will be helmed by an acclaimed director. While there has not been any official confirmation, the talks are on.

Lojja is not the first series that will be made in Hindi. Earlier, Sohini Sarkar and Rajnandini Paul’s Sampurna’s rights are also bought by Disney+ Hotstar. Ishaa Saha’s Indu was made in Telugu. Interestingly, all these three popular shows have women as the central character and these shows essentially delve into atrocities against women. Indu is about a smart homemaker who investigates a murder after getting married to a conservative household. In Sampurna, Sohini Sarkar’s character stands by her sister-in-law who becomes a victim of brutal marital rape. In Lojja, Priyanka’s character Jaya is a silent sufferer of domestic abuse. Besides Priyanka, the show also features Anujoy Chatterjee.

Hoichoi has a series of web shows that delve into women-centric characters. Besides the above-mentioned shows, there are Bodhon and Noshtoneer, both featuring Sandipta Sen in the lead. Bodhon has two seasons. The shooting of the second season of Noshtoneer will begin soon.
