Lojja follows the mundane existence of Jaya Sinha, a simple, beautiful Bengali wife running her upper middle-class household, whose life is turned upside down from the moment she decides to fight for herself. She is constantly tormented by her husband, Partha’s verbal abuse, which started with constant slurs, before turning into consistent mental torture verbally in private and public places.
Jaya finally puts her foot down, thanks to long contemplation while remaining tied up in her bedroom after being chased by the explosive Partha down the empty lanes of Kolkata at night. And that is when the real struggle begins. Jaya hires a lawyer, essayed by Koneenica Banerjee, who herself believes and supports her client’s vision and need much later, upon seeing Jaya’s resilience and conviction.
From being judged by society, to having her character publicly shamed and disrespected, to being insulted and chastised by her own family into making amends, Jaya stands tall against it all. But will she get the respect and freedom she deserves? Or will society simply see her as a “shameless” woman or a woman without “lojja” (shame)? The answer arrives on March 22.
