Exclusive! Parineeta: Gaurav Chakrabarty to play Shekhar opposite Debchandrima?

After its slate announcement in September 2023, Hoichoi revealed the first look of Parineeta. Directed by Aditi Roy, the show will be based on Saratchandra Chattopadhyay’s seminal work and will feature Debchandrima Singha Roy in the lead. This web series is supposed to be part of Hoichoi’s Best Of Bengal after Srijit Mukherji’s Durgo Rawhoshyo. However, no other cast was disclosed. Now, according to sources, ace actor Gaurav Chakrabarty might play the character of Shekhar – the hero of the novel.

There has not been any confirmation from the platform or the maker. Gaurav will be travelling to shoot Sayantan Ghosal’s Jawker Dhan 3 with Parambrata Chatterjee, Koel Mallick, and others. If everything goes well, the shooting of Parineeta may start in February. Loknath Dey may play the father of Shekhar, Navinchandra Roy. 

This will be Debchandrima’s second work with Hoichoi after Homestay Murders. Directed by Sayantan Ghosal, the show features Saurav Das, Sohini Sarkar, Arjun Chakrabarty, Sohini Sarkar, and others. 

Meanwhile, Gaurav had a fabulous 2023 with three major OTT releases – Raj Chakraborty’s Abar Proloy, Indranil Roy Chowdhury’s Chhotolok, and Parambrata Chatterjee’s Parnashavarir Shaap. In all three, the actor’s performance was lauded by viewers and critics alike.

In 2005, eminent director Pradeep Sarkar made Parineeta with Vidya Balan and Saif Ali Khan. Gaurav’s father Sabyasachi Chakrabarty is seen as Navinchandra Roy in the film. It will be interesting to see how Hoichoi presents this timeless classic.
