The director of the upcoming Malayalam movie Exit, Shaheen Mohammed, explained the rationale for the postponement of the film's theatrical release in a conversation with OTTplay. He asserted that the delay was caused by censorship issues resulting from highly violent scenes, which the makers took time to resolve.

"Following the preview, we were informed that the film contains extremely violent scenes and that it should be sorted out before its theatrical release," he said. Shaheen further explained that although he did not intentionally create a violent movie, the plot required it in order to be credible.

The filmmaker is making his directorial debut with Exit, which stars Anandham-fame Vishak Nair in a lead role. He claimed that the actor would receive a tonne of praise and recognition for his work in this movie. "Vishak is an excellent choice because of his body type, which fits the character, and his versatility in playing any kind of role," he added.

The main plot of Exit revolves around four young men who spend the night stuck in a bungalow in a village in the 1990s. In the film, Vishak Nair portrays a man with cannibalistic inclinations who has been chained in an abandoned bungalow for more than 25 years for unclear reasons.

Shaheen went on to say that Exit is not an experimental film but a commercial one with emotional elements as well. "We were anxious to produce a movie on this subject initially. But we were also quite certain that no character like that had ever been created in Malayalam film history," he added.

The film's director also mentioned that some real-life stories he heard as a child served as the basis for the movie. "I am from Palakkad, and growing up, I heard a lot of stories about similar characters from many people. All I did was approach it from a contemporary perspective so that it would appeal to the current audience," he said.

Big Boss fame Reneesha Rahiman, Tamil actor Sree Raam, and Vaisakh Vijayan are playing pivotal roles in this survival thriller, which is slated to be released in March. The makers had earlier revealed that the film will hit the big screen in February.
