The songs from Malayalam director Shaison P Ouseph’s The Face of the Faceless have made their way to the Oscars 2024’s eligibility list. The songs —Jalta Hai Suraj, Barala Tribal Song, and Ek Sapna Mera Suhana—have been selected under the Best Original Score and Best Original Song categories.
The tracks were composed by Alphons Joseph, who shared his happiness about getting nominated for recognition through social media. The film, released in theatres on November 17, is based on martyred Sr Rani Maria’s life. Sr Rani Maria is a Malayali nun who travelled to Madhya Pradesh to serve the vulnerable tribals there. However, she faced several setbacks, eventually resulting in her tragic death in 1995.
Kerala State Award Winner Win.C, Krishnakant Singh Bundela and Aryan Kumar Gupta play the lead roles in this movie, penned by Jayapal Anandan.
