Films of Karthi, Sivakarthikeyan to have a box office clash for the second time after three years

Kollywood has witnessed the release of two big ticket flicks, Valimai and Etharkkum Thunindhavan, earlier this year. 2022 will have many more big releases and one among them, Beast, will hit the screens tomorrow. With the release of many much-expected movies pending because of the pandemic, it is likely that a few of them will have to battle it out at the box office.

According to the grapevine, two Tamil movies, in all probability, will clash at the box office. If the reports are to be believed, Karthi's Sardar and Sivakarthikeyan's SK 20 (tentative title) might lock horns with each other. Both the movies, we hear, are likely to arrive on August 12.

Sardar, directed by Mithran, revolves around a son's struggles to rescue his father who has been held captive in a prison. The film, which stars Karthi in dual roles, has Raashi Khanna and Rejisha Vijayan essaying female leads. GV Prakash composes music for the film.  

SK 20, on the other hand, has Anudeep at the helm. Thaman is composing music for the bilingual project which has Ukrainian actress Maria Ryaboshapka essaying the female lead role. Billed as a fun-filled entertainer, its story is said to revolve around a tourist guide who falls in love with a girl who hails from another country.

Interestingly, films of Karthi and Sivakarthikeyan had a box office clash earlier in 2019. The former's Thambi (streaming on Netflix) directed by Jeethu Joseph and the latter's Hero (streaming on Amazon Prime Video) released on December 20.

Despite opening to decent reports, both the films ended up as average grossers at the box office. For now, an official announcement is awaited on the clash between Sardar and SK 20.
