The First Omen, the prequel to the highly popular Omen franchise, is ready to serve its summer scare. The film will serve as a refreshing insight into the mysterious origin of Damien, the epitome of Evil. Produced by David S. Goyer and Keith Levine, The First Omen marks the feature directorial debut of Arkasha Stevenson of Legion and highly weird Netflix horror series Brand New Cherry Flavor. The much-anticipated prequel to the Omen franchise was co-written by Stevenson, Tim Smith, and Keith Thomas

Release date and trailer of The First Omen

The First Omen releases on April 5, 2024, in theatres. The film also dropped its trailer on January 3, 2024. Making an addition to the franchise nearly 20 years since the last Omen film (that too the 2006 remake), The First Omen has caused much anticipation among horror fans.

Plot of The First Omen and contents of the trailer

The First Omen is placed within a few years prior to the events of the original 1976 film, that is, the birth of Damien. This prequel will explore a young woman’s arrival in Rome and her uncovering a dark conspiracy - surrounding the birth of evil incarnate, the Antichrist himself. The film’s unique backwards trailer offers more insight on the taut, ominous premise as well as the fate that awaits the protagonist played by Nell Tiger Free.

Since the Antichrist is the child of Satan and proclaims the end of days along with a surge in evil, the film is bound to thrill us akin to its predecessors. The First Omen will star different actors in the original and returning characters. Ralph Ineson and Anton Alexander will essay the roles of Father Brennan and Father Spiletto, instead of Patrick Troughton and Martin Benson

In The Omen, the young Antichrist Damien develops a penchant for killing anyone who dares to oppose him. The franchise follows his trail of murder and fulfillment of destiny till he is killed and succeeded by his daughter in Omen IV: The Awakening. Overall, Damien remains a detestable yet intriguing horror figure. The First Omen’s promising premise and solid crew assure another blockbuster from the franchise that will soon be here to offer more truths about Damien’s origin.
