In less than two months, the much-awaited Prabhas-starrer Salaar will be in theatres. The Prashant Neel directorial is also a two-part saga, with the first out on September 28. So far, the team of the film has been tight-lipped about the story and while it is rumoured that the film is an upgraded version of the filmmaker’s debut vehicle Ugramm, there’s been no official confirmation of the same. In fact, the Salaar ‘teaser’ that came out a few weeks ago at 5.12 am, did not even have a proper shot of Prabhas. Such is the secrecy surrounding the film.

Not long ago, fans had kicked off an online appeal for some publicity material of the film to be made available in the first week of August and it seems that the team has paid heed. According to the buzz on social media, the first single from Salaar will drop in the first week of August. Salaar is a Ravi Basrur musical, marking his fourth collaboration with Prashant, after Ugramm, KGF: Chapter 1 and Chapter 2.

In the past, when Basrur was asked about Salaar being the remake of Ugramm, he has replied saying that it was a matter that everyone knew. Another source close to the team had told OTTplay that the basic story remains the same, but that Salaar has not only been made on a much bigger scale and introduces a whole bunch of new characters. While Prabhas supposedly has Sriimurali’s role and Shruthi Haasan that of Hariprriya from the original, Prithviraj Sukumaran takes on the character played by Tilak, we are told. The source added that Salaar is a combination of Ugramm and the sequel that Neel had earlier proposed, Ugramm Veeram. The filmmaker, though, has denied the Ugramm remake charges, but netizens believe there could be a connection, considering that the team has been going out of their way to keep elements about the film under wraps.
