True Detective is reigning supreme on HBO Max since its first release in 2014. It has been over a decade, and with three seasons, the crime drama has been quite loved by fans. It tells some intriguing stories about a few police officers and detectives across the US, who while hunting down killers, run into deep, dark secrets about themselves and the people they are related with.

Season 3 showed Mahershala Ali is a detective, who used to work on a case that still haunts him. It's been thirty-five years since a boy and his sister disappeared in West Finger, Arkansas, and the detective can't stop thinking about it. He has been retired, but the mystery keeps eating him, and how he found solace.

Season 4 is about a tiny town called Ennis, Alaska, where eight men live at a science station. One day, without warning, all the men disappear. Nobody knows where they went or why they left, leaving the town shrouded in mystery.

Here are five reasons why you should not miss True Detective:

Long running show of HBO television channel

True Detective is one of the longest running crime-dramas. It's storyline and cast performances are so gripping, that it has been one of the top ranked shows of HBO Max for over a decade. Before debuting on OTT platform, the show used to run on HBO Channel, and the exciting part about this channel is it never bans any particular scenes of dialogues on national television, that might be heinous or scary.

Amazing star-studded cast

True Detective has a star-studded cast, including Woody Harrelson, Matthew McConaughey, Michelle Monaghan, Alexandra Daddario, Mahershala Ali, Jodie Foster, Kali Reis, Fiona Shaw, Finn Bennett, Isabelle Star LaBlanc, and John Hawkes.

Paved way to Oscar glory

Matthew McConaughey's mind-blowing performance in True Detective paved his way to Oscar glory. This was his first big television role, and won him awards at the Emmys, Golden Globes, and SAG Awards. That kept him in the spotlight just when voting for the Oscars was underway, and helped him win the award for Best Actor.

The gripping and over-the-top storyline

True Detective delves into complex and sometimes controversial themes that are rarely explored on television. Matthew McConaughey's Rust is a character defined by his sharp realism and philosophical pessimism, which may not resonate with all viewers.

Bagged twelve prestigious accolades

While Matthew McConaughey's performance in the first season cemented his career, True Detective's success extends far beyond that. The series has racked up five Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Directing, five additional prestigious wins like a Critics' Choice Award and a BAFTA, and two Writers Guild Awards for its gripping narratives.
