Ever since Solo Leveling season 2 came to an end, another is making the buzz. This is the 2023 anime, Frieren. Are you wondering why it is back in the news? Now that Solo Leveling season 2 has ended and One Piece is back, some otakus went searching for an underrated anime that absolutely deserves your time. That is where Frieren comes in. Bonus: There's an update on season 2. Here's everything you wanted to know about it...
Frieren has a storyline that is somewhere between Solo Leveling and One Piece. We know it sounds insane, so let us explain.
This anime is about the female protagonist Frieren, who is an elf. She, much like Monkey D. Luffy has a band of heroes who are next to immortal.
Frieren defeated the Demon King (what happened in Solo Leveling) and found her allies to be on the verge of death (much like how Lee Dong-wook's Wang Yeo first met Kim Go-eun's Ji Eun-tak in Goblin). The first season of the anime was about Frieren taking off to bid proper goodbye to her fellow hero, Himmel (refer W: Two Worlds Apart).
There's a lot that is waiting to be explored in Frieren 2. Frieren and Fern aim at completing their mage exams, and with it, they would cross the Northern territories (once again, One Piece serving inspiration). The anime is set to return in the first half of 2026-2027. Although it might be out on Crunchyroll by January 2026, the anime would take 2027 to release on Netflix.
Need we even say it at this point? Frieren has a strong base for a storyline, but if it can even beat Solo Leveling, then you can imagine how much the VFX has worked with the viewers. This anime ticks all the right boxes, thus making it the top choice for otakus. So, maybe it's time to hit rewind and watch this gem before the year comes to an end.
