Telugu cinema has been delivering great content over the last few years, with a plethora of releases hitting the screens each week in the Telugu states. However, for the first time in a long while, there are no big or medium-sized Telugu films releasing. Instead, three major non-Telugu films are set to hit the screens on March 7, 2025.
The films in discussion are the Malayalam hit Officer on Duty, Kingston, the Tamil film featuring GV Prakash, and the Telugu-dubbed version of Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava. All these films have gained significant attention and have been successful in their respective languages, except for Kingston, which is a direct Tamil-Telugu release.
Officer on Duty has grossed Rs 50 crore in Malayalam and stars Kunchacko Boban in the lead role. Directed by Jithu Ashraf, the film is all set for a grand release in Tamil and Telugu on March 7, 2025.
On the other hand, Chhaava is Vicky Kaushal's period drama that has already made over Rs 450 crore in Hindi. There has been immense demand for the film in Telugu, and seizing this opportunity, legendary producer Allu Aravind has acquired the rights. He is ensuring a massive release across Telugu states, expecting it to perform well at the box office.
Finally, Kingston is a fantasy horror thriller directed by Kamal Prakash. The film has generated decent buzz due to its intriguing genre and the popularity of GV Prakash. Divyabharati plays the female lead, and the movie is also set to release on March 7, 2025.
Apart from these big releases, a few low-budget Telugu films are also eyeing a release this weekend. However, their release dates remain uncertain, as they depend on securing proper theater availability in Hyderabad.
This weekend will witness a wave of dubbed films dominating the Telugu box office. Historically, Telugu audiences have shown strong support for films with compelling content. Among the three, Chhaava is expected to open well, as trade experts have high expectations from the film. Given its blockbuster status in Hindi, many viewers would be eager to watch it in Telugu and learn more about its historical narrative.
Meanwhile, the fate of Officer on Duty and Kingston will depend on word-of-mouth reception. It remains to be seen which of these films will click with Telugu audiences in the coming days.
